The headquarters of Heritage Party Leader Raffi Hovannisian has issued
a statement saying that the leaflets posted on free advertisement
stands to inform people of the public gathering to be held in
Yerevan’s Freedom Square on April 9 were torn apart shortly after
posting.

The headquarters reminded that the gathering had been sanctioned by
the Yerevan Municipality.

“The young activists of the Heritage party managed to video-record the
number-plates of the car following them. They saw it stop near the
police station of Yerevan’s Arabkir administrative district minutes
later and its two passengers, who had torn the leaflets, enter the
building. They reported the Arabkir police on the incident.

The headquarters also received an emergency call that the police walk
from door to door in different villages to prevent people from
attending the gathering for the inauguration of a new Armenia.

The headquarters demands that the police find out if the individuals
are really policemen and enforce urgent liability measures against
them, if they proved to be involved in the incident.

The headquarters finds that it is the duty of the police to protect
the letter of the law instead of carrying out political persecutions
of the ruling party and its leader [Serzh Sargsyan].

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
