NKR PRIME MINISTER IS CERTAIN THAT THE WAR WILL NOT BRING ANY BENEFIT TO ANY SIDES

YEREVAN, MARCH 29, ARMENPRESS: Armenia and Azerbaijan will hardly
come to any agreement this year in the regulation issue of the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict. There is even the danger of war in the region.

According to Armenpress, citing Reuters, this was stated by the Prime
Minister of Nagorno Karabakh Republic Arayik Harutyunyan. “If we manage
to live this year peacefully, it might be considered constructive,
but in the conflict regulation issue the year will hardly be considered
successful”, – said Arayik Harutyunyan at the Armenian-French Investors
meeting in Paris.

Reuters reminds of the story of the conflict origin and history and
states that the superpowers are quite concerned about the situation
in the South Caucasus. It is mentioned that Armenia has a security
agreement with Russia, whereas Azerbaijan only with Turkey.

Oil-producing Azerbaijan, which cooperates with major oil companies,
as BP, Chevron and ExxonMobil, often threatens to occupy Nagorno
Karabakh with force, though it acts as a proponent of diplomacy.

“Neither the Karabakh people nor the Azerbaijanis will get any
benefits from the war”, – said Arayik Harutyunyan, emphasizing that
the war wouldn’t bring any benefits to any sides. He also stated
that Nagorno Karabakh would not strike the first, though Azerbaijan
continues importing weapons. “I think that the war will bring to a
great humanitarian crisis and bloodshed”, – said the Prime Minister
of Nagorno Karabakh Republic and added that in case of a new war the
losses will be more than in the past.

Reuters represented the present stage of the conflict regulation
negotiations process, mentioning though that the negotiations would
not give any results unless Nagorno Karabakh was involved in the
process as a negotiating party. Besides, the Agency expressed its
hope that the re-election of Serzh Sargsyan would give a new impetus
to the negotiations process.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
