At the Armenian cross stone installed at the bank of Danube river, in
Budapest the Armenian community of Budapest paid tribute to the memory
of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan, journalist of
site Arev Lalayan says and reminds that 9 years ago Margaryan was
brutally murdered by Ramil Safarov in the capital city of Hungary
during the NATO trainings. In 2012, in his fatherland Azerbaijan, Ramil
Safarov was awarded with title of a hero for committing the murder.

At 5:30 am, on 19 February 2004, 26 year-old Armenian lieutenant
Gurgen Margaryan was brutally axed in his sleep. The murderer was
Azerbaijani Ramil Safarov. The criminal had tried to commit one more
assassination attempt on another Armenian officer as well. The attempt
had been stopped. They both had left for Hungary on English language
trainings at NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” program.

Gurgen Margaryan’s roommate Kuti Balash told later that there were
representatives of different nationalities living on the same floor,
the Azerbaijani officer in that number. There was no conflict between
Gurgen Margaryan and the Azerbaijani and the group members at all.

According to the Hungarian officer they had touched upon the
international conflict only once, on the very first day. After that
no one has uttered anything about it.

Balash has also noted that on February 18, at the evening after having
tea he had gone to sleep. Gurgen continued studying. Then, at 21:30
he visited the other Armenian officer, Hayk Mukuchyan. He had not
fixed the time of his return. Only around morning he had felt that
someone had turned on the light. He had thought that it was Gurgen
but then he had heard muted voices and had turned his head. At that
second he had recognized the Azerbaijani with a huge ax in his hands
standing at Margaryan’s bed.

“At that second I understood that something horrible has taken place.

There was blood everywhere. I started to shout for the Azerbaijani
to stop doing that. He said that he had no problem with me and would
not touch me. He seemed to be happy, as if he had finished a very
important job. I was shocked, I ran out to find some help, Ramil left
by another direction,” the Hungarian tells.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
