K. SHAKHNAZAROV DOES NOT EXCLUDE SHOOTING FILM ON NAGORNO KARABAKH

YEREVAN, JANUARY 21, ARMENPRESS. The Yerevan premier of “White Tiger”
movie by prominent filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer, Director
General of “Mosfilm” film studio Karen Shakhnazarov will be held in
Moscow Cinema Theatre on January 22. As reports “Armenpress” during
the press conference held on January 21 Karen Shakhnazarov stated that
the Yerevan premier of the movie is of a certain importance for him.
The filmmaker stated: “This was an interesting work and I am hopeful
that the Armenian TV companies will also display the movie.” Also
Shakhnazarov mentioned that before the press conference kicked off
he had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh
Sargsyan, who decorated him with a medal. The renowned filmmaker
noted: “This is a great honor for me. The meeting with the President
was short, but very significant. We talked about Nagorno Karabakh,
as my ancestors come from there. Also we touched upon the topic of
cooperation. It was a very warm and impressive meeting.” According
to him there are no distinct plans regarding shooting a movie on
Nagorno Karabakh, notwithstanding the realization of that idea is
not excluded. Shakhnazarov underscored: “To my opinion one day we
shall take that step. I am interested in Nagorno Karabakh and I have
studied the history of my family.”
Among other things Shakhnazarov finds that Armenia and Russia cannot
exist without each other and their connection is unbreakable. Also
answering on a question whether the outstanding filmmaker is
considering shooting a movie dedicated to the 100th anniversary of
the Armenian Genocide, Karen Shakhnazarov stated that he is very
interested in that rather complicated and responsible topic too.
“White Tiger” is a 2012 Russian action film directed by Karen
Shakhnazarov. The film was selected as the Russian entry for the Best
Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards.
