YEREVAN, JANUARY 21, ARMENPRESS: “Georgia has always played stabilizing
role in South Caucasus and we have been in good relations both with
Armenia and Azerbaijan. These are not just words,” noted Georgian
President Mikheil Saakashvili when answering question of Armenpress
journalist in Strasbourg, where the winter session of PACE launched
on January 21.

President of Georgia refrained from commenting on the statement of
Georgian Prime Bidzina Ivanishvili made on January 17 during joint
briefing with Armenian Prime in Yerevan, where he conveyed Ilham
Aliyev’s words on NKR conflict. And to the question whether Georgia
is willing to become a mediator Saakashvili has noted he is not aware
what kind of details have been discussed.

When speaking about relations with South Caucasian countries
Saakashvili noted, that more than half million Armenians visited
Georgia last year.

“Recently we have not only activated relations between governments, but
also between the nations, all existing stereotypes have disappeared. We
have once again discovered each other which is more important than
relations between presidents or the governments,” Saakashvili said.

He noted the same process was implementing with Azerbaijan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
