Court building renovated under world bank-funded program reopens in Sevan

YEREVAN, November 30. /ARKA/. A court building in Sevan, renovated
under a World Bank-funded program designed to help Armenian government
reform the judicial system, was reopened today, World Bank Yerevan
Office reported.

It said the renovation of the court building with a total space of
,1660 square meters, cost $1.5 million. It is the 15th court building
in Armenia renovated under this program.

The building has four courtrooms and is equipped with necessary
furniture and innovation systems, including case management system,
public information terminals and Datalex monitors.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Justice of
Armenia, Hrayr Tovmasyan, chairman of the Cassation Court Armen
Mkrtumyan and David Melikian, a World Bank Yerevan Office specialist,
supervising the implementation of the program. Another court building
is to be renovated under this program in Kapan in 2013.

“The second judicial reform project” is financed by a loan from the
International Development Association (IDA) in the amount of $22.5
million, and the World Bank- raised Dutch and Japanese grants in the
amount of $4.9 million and $3 million respectively. The program began
on July 5, 2007 and will end on 30 January 2013.

The objectives of the Second Judicial Reform Project for Armenia is to
provide Armenia’s judiciary with the administration, facilities and
expanded capacity necessary to improve the efficiency, reliability and
transparency of judicial operations and services; and continue to
improve public awareness of judicial services and access to legal and
judicial information. -0-
