YEREVAN. – Finding a job is the number-one problem for the Syrian
Armenians who have moved to Armenia, Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan
said Wednesday during a conference devoted to the Syrian Armenians.

In the minister’s words, the high paying jobs are scarce in Armenia,
whereas the Syrian Armenians are used to high salaries. Also, numerous
Syrian Armenians wish to establish their own business in Armenia, but,
to do that, the country’s legislation and market need to be studied.

In his turn, Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development National
Center Director Varazdat Karapetyan informed that they are carrying
out a number of programs and Syrian Armenians likewise could get
involved in them. “If twenty people are gathered, we can start the
activities tomorrow!” he noted.

Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan added that close to 150 Syrian
Armenians have already found jobs.

The businessmen attending the conference introduced several job
opportunities, some which included housing and joint activities. By
and large, however, the Syrian Armenians were suggested to engage in
a variety of jobs.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
