The issue of Armenia’s full membership in the EurAsEC, as well as
in the Customs Union and Eurasian Union (Armenia is now observer at
the EurAsEC), which are to be based on it, will once again be raised
point-blank this December.

Next month, at the CIS Summit in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Armenian
President Serzh Sargsyan is to meet with his Russian counterpart
Vladimir Putin.

The newspaper’s sources say that the Russian leader is expected to
demand that the Armenian president clearly state Armenia’s stance –
getting fully involved in the EurAsEC or retaining its observer status.

The point is that EurAsEC membership is the “criterion” to determine
Armenia’s movement either toward the West or toward Russia.

In contrast to Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, who does not
miss a chance to express his negative opinion, Armenia’s president has
never stated his position on Armenia’s possible membership in EurAsEC.
