IRANIAN GOVERNMENT RENOVATES ARMENIAN CHURCH IN MAGHARA

The 16th century St. Hovhannes Armenian Apostolic Church in Maghara,
Iran, is being renovated by the Iranian Committee to Preserve Historic
Monuments.

Maghara, an area once populated by Armenians is located 150 kilometers
south of Tabriz.

In the 1960s, some 60 Armenian families lived in Maghara. At the time,
an Armenian school also operated in the town.

Today, no Armenians remain in Maghara, most having relocated toTabriz.
