YEREVAN. – There are 430,000 agriculturally-cultivated lands and
340,000 farms in Armenia. That is to say, 1.2-1.3 hectares of land
falls to each farm, PM Tigran Sargsyan said Friday speaking at the
Armenian State University of Economics. He added that such agricultural
model cannot exist for long in the country.

In his words, it is indispensable to increase and enlarge productivity,
but there are serious challenges on the way. A total of 1.1 million
people in Armenia are engaged in agriculture and their significant
portion will become unemployed when productivity is increased and
enlarged. That is why the Government seeks to create new jobs in
the villages, and by way of designing an agricultural and rural
development concept, so that the villagers would not leave their
villages and move to capital city Yerevan.

Also, community enlargement, farm enlargement, and cooperation
development activities are simultaneously conducted in Armenia.
