Ariel Cohen’s provocative statements are a direct way towards
new deaths on both sides of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. They
may undermine the Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks and may provoke
even more interethnic hatred among certain people, member of the
Karabakh Committee, national security advisor of the first president
of Armenia Ashot Manucharyan said in an interview to ArmInfo, when
asked to comment on the article published by Senior Research Fellow
for Russian and Eurasian Studies and International Energy Policy at
the Heritage Foundation Ariel Cohen on the Voice of America website.

Cohen’s article says that Armenia’s attack on Azerbaijan’s
infrastructures would be a disaster for the whole region and might
affect Russia, Europe and even the United States. And so, Cohen urges
the West to prevent this tragic outcome by forcing Armenia to give
up its escalation policy.

“First of all, I would like to say that the parties to the Nagorno-
Karabakh conflict cannot start a war now for a whole number of
geopolitical reasons, nor will the West be able to do anything should
there be something initiated by Russia,” Manucharyan said.

He believes that by making such risky and groundless statements
Cohen is openly provoking a new war in the South Caucasus. “The Hague
Tribunal must react in some way to such an activity, but if it does
not, it will give one more ground for one to doubt its efficiency and
to suspect it of corruption – for except money, the Baku regime has
nothing in common with any of the nations living in the South Caucasus
and in the area called the Republic of Azerbaijan,” Manucharyan said.

According to the expert, the so-called international forces have
traditionally been engaged in fanning hostility between different
people in different areas of the world in an attempt to push their
personal interests.

“So, I see nothing new in this article by a provocateur like Cohen,”
Manucharyan said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
