In Azerbaijan Some People Are Still Standing At Station

IN AZERBAIJAN SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL STANDING AT STATION

During today’s joint press conference of the foreign ministers
of Armenia and Latvia Edward Nalbandyan and Edgars Rinkevics the
journalists inquired about the statement of the Azerbaijani foreign
minister that Baku has proposed a road map of settlement of the
Karabakh issue, the so-called stage by stage settlement and repeats
the settlement proposal circulated in the 1990s.

The Armenian foreign minister said:

“First of all, the impression is that the author of this statement
has not got any new information since the mid-1990s, and is trying
to present Azerbaijan’s position, stating that it was the same as in
1995. Since 1995 15-17 years have passed, the train has left, and
some people in Azerbaijan are still standing at the station. They
think they must run to catch up with the train because the train is
moving forward. The international community has a roadmap which was
proposed in Kazan, I mean the basic principles of the settlement of the
Nagorno-Karabakh issue proposed by the three co-chairs. I will remind
you that in Deauville, before the summit of Kazan, the presidents of
the United States, Russia and France urged the sides to accept the
proposals. Although you know that no success was achieved in Kazan
because Azerbaijan rejected the proposals.

I do not think the proposal of a new roadmap by Azerbaijan is something
serious, especially that a 17-year-old proposal is concerned. Had
this proposal any meaning 17 years ago, it would be possible to
move forward. One must be more realistic, treat the proposals of
the international community seriously, which are expressed by the
co-chairs. These proposals were made in Kazan, as well as statements
were made by ministers in Los Cabos, Deauville, Muscoda, L’Aquila. It
is necessary to move forward on the basis of those proposals. As to
the position of Armenia, it has been expressed for a number of times
and clearly.”
