U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT UNAWARE OF AZERI BAN OF MORNINGSTAR VISIT

News | 07.11.12 | 13:14

The U.S. State Department was not aware that Azerbaijani authorities
had banned US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar from
visiting an Armenian cemetery in Jugha, as reports Armenpress, citing
the U.S. State Department’s Victoria Nuland.

Morningstar issued a statement this weekend expressing his regret
that he was not allowed to visit the cemetery, where Armenian graves
have been desecrated and hundreds of tombstones destroyed, by local
Azeris in Nakhijevan.

Azeri officials would not allow the ambassador to go, citing security
reasons.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
