“Unlike Azerbaijan, Armenia has chosen the path of democracy,
not xenophobia”, said Edward Sharmazanov, Vice Speaker of Armenian
Parliament, who represented the ruling Republican Party of Armenia at
the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly’s forum in St. Petersburg. The
forum was dedicated to prevention of human rights violation and
cyber crimes.

Sharmazanov said that the militarist rhetoric of Azerbaijan is
intensifying with every passing day, whereas Armenia is preparing
its people for peace. When commenting on the Azerbaijani president’s
statement made several months ago that the Armenians worldwide
were Azerbaijan’s enemies No.1, Sharmazanov said that such racist
and anti-human statements intensify the anti-Armenian hysteria
in Azerbaijan. Sharmazanov added that the latest evidence of this
hysteria was the Azerbaijani authorities’ pardoning of Ramil Safarov,
who killed the sleeping Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan with an axe.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
