TURKEY MIGHT CLOSE AIRSPACE FOR ARMENIA

The Turkish government condemned the efforts of the Armenian side to
open the airport in Karabakh and called the step provocative, and one
that undermines and limits the possibility of a peaceful resolution
of the conflict. Turkey is considering the option of closing down
its airspace for Armenia. The airport in Stepanakert, capital of
Mountainous Karabakh, was built in 1974. It stopped functioning in
1992 during the military conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over
the territory. Four-years ago the Armenian side began reconstructing
the airport with plans to begin flights. Azerbaijan threatened to
shoot down every single plane taking off from the airport. Yerevan
labeled such a step as state terrorism. Flights have not started so
far but the confrontation is still here.
