YEREVAN. – The Hungarian authorities are concerned by our pressure
that is applied on them, Giro Manoyan, Director of the International
Secretariat of the ARF Bureau and Head of the Armenian Cause Office,
stated during a press conference on Thursday.

“They are attempting to find a way to close this matter, but it’s
clear that this matter will not close so quickly. They need to take
steps so we may understand that Hungary’s authorities have repented.

These [steps] need to be so equivalent, specifically in the Artsakh
[Nagorno-Karabakh] issue; they must recognize Nagorno-Karabakh’s
right to self-determination,” he said.

Reflecting on a possible meeting between the presidents of Armenia
and Azerbaijan, Manoyan noted that the FMs of both countries should
meet first.

“What should be discussed with a state that takes such steps? What
should be discussed with a president like [Ilham] Aliyev?” he remarked.

With respect to changing the format of the Karabakh peace talks,
Manoyan said this will not take place very quickly. In his view,
the OSCE has shown and understood that Nagorno-Karabakh cannot be a
part of Azerbaijan.

In Giro Manoyan’s words, Hungary’s extradition of Ramil Safarov to
and his subsequent pardon in Azerbaijan dealt a heavy blow to the
negotiations and the chance of destabilization increased, and the
Hungarian authorities likewise are accountable for this and they need
to take steps to rectify the situation.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
