Armenia participates in IAEA 56th General Conference

VIENNA. – The 56th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General
Conference launched in Vienna on Monday, with the participation of the
IAEA member-states’ delegations. The Armenian delegation is headed by
the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan,
ministerial press service reports.
IAEA Director General the Yukiya Amano opened the 56th session and
presented the IAEA annual report. The Armenian Minister also delivered
a speech during the conference. He touched upon a number of serious
issues, in particular, use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, as
well as raising the security level of the Nuclear Power Plants (NPP)
worldwide.
Movsisyan also spoke about prospects of the atomic energy development
in Armenia and construction of a new NPP unit. The Minister
underscored importance of cooperation with international agencies
noting that Armenia continues efforts into improving safety level of
the existing NPP unit.
