Turkey issues note to France over curriculum that supports Armenian
allegations in school books pertaining to the incidents of 1915.
PARIS (AA) – September 5, 2012 – The Turkish Embassy in Paris has made
initiatives at the French Foreign Ministry and Education Ministry
in reaction to France’s decision to place one-sided curriculum that
supports Armenian allegations in school books pertaining to the
incidents of 1915.
In a note sent to the French Foreign Ministry and a letter to the
French Education Ministry, the Turkish Ambassador in Paris Tahsin
Burcuoglu said that Armenian allegations did not reflect the truth
and that Turkey reacted fiercely over history books that reflect the
past from only one side.
In the note and letter, Turkey stated that the curriculum was based
on fake documents.
Ambassador Burcuoglu underlined that Turkish parents in France felt
great discomfort over the inclusion of Armenian allegations in French
school books.
The French parliament in 2001 adopted a law that officially recognized
Armenian allegations pertaining to the incidents of 1915.
The French parliament recently adopted a law that criminalized the
rejection of Armenian allegations to the incidents of 1915 but the
French Constitutional Court annulled the law.
