TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF YURI YERZNKYAN

YEREVAN, JULY 13, ARMENPRESS: Within the framework of “Golden Apricot”
9 th International film festival a memory tribute was paid to one of
the masterminds of Armenian film making, Yuri Yerznkyan.

As press service of the film festival informed Armenpress, the
director’s “Khatabala” film was shown in “Moscow” cinema.

Yerznkyan started his creative life by screening documentary films,
yet sooner the talented intellectual conquered the heights of feature
film. All his films invested something new in Armenian cinematographic
art.

“First love song” screened in 1958 had a crucial role in the
development of Armenian filmography and occupied its permanent place
in the history of Armenian film.”Khatabala” dating 1971 was the
second reflection after “Pepo” to Sundukyan’s work. Reportedly his ”
Mourning snow” was a new approach, depicting deep psychological drama.

For many years Yerznkyan headed Faculty of Culture , Film Photo Masters
chair of State Pedagogical University(then Institute) after Khachatur
Abovyan .
