Armenia’s parliamentary elections rigged: communist party

YEREVAN Armenia, May 18

Armenia’s Communist Party said Friday that parliamentary elections
held on May 6 “were rigged”.

“We are confident that our party has received a couple of times more
than the officially announced 16,000 votes,” said Ruben Tovmasyan,
first secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia, in a press
conference.

According to the elections results released by the Central Electoral
Commission of Armenia (CEC) on May 7, President Serzh Sargsyan’s
Republican Party had won a majority, or, at least 68 of the 131 seats,
in the National Assembly and its coalition partner, the Prosperous
Armenia Party, received 30.2 percent of the votes.

In contrast, the Communist Party of Armenia received 1.5 percent of the votes.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
