The Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), which is the Turkish parliament’s
sole Kurdish political force, issued a statement Tuesday, in connection
with 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and noted that it
commemorates with profound respect the memory of the victims of the
great tragedy.

“In 1915, the Armenian people bore great suffering, and they were
subjected to genocide by being forcibly deported from their lands.

Turkey has not yet confronted the historical tragedy, to cleanse the
public conscience, it has not faced up to its own history, and has
not apologized to the Armenian people.

These undisclosed dark events paved the way for new tragedies,”
the BDP’s statement specifically reads.

Also, the statement recalled the anti-Armenian protest, which was
held in Istanbul on February 26 and organized by the Turkish state,
and stressed how the entire world became an eyewitness to how the
country’s Internal Affairs Minister made racist remarks during that
demonstration.

In its statement, the Kurdish party called on Turkey’s authorities
to apologize to the people of Anatolia and Mesopotamia, who have
survived great pains.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
