Armenia is the third in the world by the death rate due to smoking

Yerevan/Mediamax/. According to the report of the American Cancer
Society, Armenia is the third in the world by cases of death among men
due to diseases caused by smoking.

Head of the Public Health Department of the Armenian Ministry of
Health Alexander Bazarchyan said this today, Mediamax reports.

According to the report, Turkey is the first (37%), Kazakhstan – the
second (34%) and Armenia is the third (32%).

50% of deaths are caused by cardiovascular diseases and 20% of cases
are caused by cancer. According to the official data of 2009, the
number of Armenian men aged above 16 years old who smoke on a daily
basis makes 52-55%. The most active among women is 35-55 age group
(6-7%).

Alexander Bazarchyan added that 3-4 thousand people die in Armenia on
a yearly basis due to diseases caused by smoking.
