The party list of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun
includes 85 candidates and is led by ARF-D faction head Vahan
Hovhannisyan.

At a news conference on Wednesday, Mr Hovhannisyan said that the list
does not include a few of MPs of the party, including Hrayr Karapetyan
and Ashot Apoyan.

“The party has assigned them other serious tasks in a different
sphere,” he said.

The head of the ARF-D parliamentary group predicts a tough struggle
ahead of the May 6 parliamentary elections. Concerning possible
clashes Mr Hovhannisyan said. “Judging from government’s efforts to
pass the bill on ‘Legal Regime of Emergency Situation’ which implies
using armed forces during emergency situations, I think that the
authorities do not exclude them.”

ARF-D ‘rejuvenates’ its list

“Only one candidate has been included on the ARF-D party list from
the bureau and that person is me,” Vahan Hovhannisyan told reporters.

He noted that the top ten candidates on the list are “younger,” with
new names appearing down the list. It took the party a long time to
compile the list since there were a number of issues to be agreed upon.

Remind that the top five candidates on the ARF-D electoral slate
are Vahan Hovhannisyan, Armen Rustamyan, Artyusha Shahbazyan, Aghvan
Vardanyan and Artsvik Minasyan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
