The effectiveness of Armenia-EU furtherpartnership will much depend on
the quality of the forthcoming parliamentary election in Armenia in
May, the acting head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Onno Simons,
told journalists today. He also added that the EU hopes that the
Armenian authorities are ready and resolute to hold transparent and
democratic parliamentary election which will meet international and
European standards.

He recalled that in its cooperation with Armenia the EU is guided with
a principle – “more for more” – the more reforms the more support by
the EU. He also added that the EU does not have another wording –
“less for less”, and hopes that such a scenario will be ruled out
in Armenia, otherwise, the relations between Armenia and the EU will
not be improved.

As a sample, Simons mentioned the talks with Ukraine on making an
agreement on deep and comprehensive trade, which had to be signed
in December 2011, but was not signed taking into account certain
difficulties in local policy of the authorities of Ukraine.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
