The passage of the Armenian Genocide bill in the French Senate means
that the issue transfers to the legal-political field, which can be
more effective for the Armenian side than the process of international
recognition, Ashot Melkonyan, Director of the Institute of History
of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, told a press conference
today.

According to him, the adoption of bills criminalizing the Armenian
Genocide denial by different countries may serve as a firm basis for
starting the reimbursement process, which official Ankara avoids.

“If the Armenian-Turkish protocols were ratified, they would prevent
the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide,”
he said.

Touching upon the Sochi meeting, Ashot Melkonyan noted that “despite
the non-constructive position of Baku, the process of peaceful
settlement of the Karabakh conflict continues thanks to the efforts
of the mediators.

According to him, Azerbaijan is well aware that the military solution
can be destructive for them. That is why Ilham Aliyev does not rush
to refuse from the Minsk Group format.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
