Baku – APA. “Azerbaijan achieved great success in the field of foreign
policy last year. Our country became the non-permanent member of
the UN Security Council. Azerbaijan won the confidence of the world
community”, said President Ilham Aliyev at the meeting of the Cabinet
of Ministers on socio-economic outcomes of 2011 and plans for 2012.

The Head of State said that as a result of Armenia’s non-constructive
position, no progress has been achieved in the settlement of the
Nagorno Karabakh conflict in 2011. Speaking about the positive cases,
President Aliyev highly appreciated the statement by the leaders of
the three co-chair countries in 2011 about the inadmissibility of
the status quo. He emphasized the importance of the fulfillment of
resolutions adopted for acceleration of the conflict solution.

President Aliyev said Azerbaijan was increasing its defense potential.

Our military expenditures were USD 3 413 million in 2010, but it was
USD 3 474 million in 2011.

“Our army has great opportunities today. We have strongest army in the
region”, said the Head of State and noted that the defense potential
of Azerbaijan alarms Armenia.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
