Henri Verneuil (Ashod Malakian) who was a French-Armenian playwright
and filmmaker and who enjoyed a successful career in France died
ten years ago on 11 January 2002. He was born to Armenian parents
in Rodosto, East Thrace, Turkey. In the aftermath of the Armenian
Genocide when Ashod was a little child his family fled to France and
settled in Marseille.
Ashod Malakian or Henri Verneuil was a member of literature and arts
Academy. Worked with the world famous film actors Fernandel, Jean
Gabin, Alain Delon, Lino Ventura, Omar Sharif, Claudia Cardinale and
created more than 50 films – Mayrig (Mother), I comme Icare (I as in
Icarus), Le President (The President), etc.
