President Serzh Sargsyan received today Sheikh-Ul-Islam, Head of
Administration of Muslims of the Caucasus Allashukyur Pashazade,
who is in Yerevan in the framework of the session of the Presidium
of the CIS Interfaith Council, and His Holiness Catholicos of All
Armenians Garegin II.
The President of Armenia hailed the role of interfaith accord in
the world, stressed the importance of forming in the region of the
atmosphere of tolerance and expressed confidence that religious
leaders can play a significant role in the process. Serzh Sargsyan
welcomed efforts of His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin
II and Sheikh-Ul-Islam Allashukyur Pashazade aimed at the settlement
of the conflict through a dialogue.
Sheikh-Ul-Islam, Head of Administration of Muslims of the Caucasus
Allashukyur Pashazade noted that any step toward peace made by them
~V religious leaders, is laudable. He expressed confidence that
efforts of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will allow to
achieve solution of the problem and said that spiritual leaders of
the two countries are ready to support them. He underscored that in
his conversations with the President of Azerbaijan he has noted for
many times that war is not a solution to the problem.
