Eleventh World Conference of UNESCO World Heritage Cities Organization
was held in Sintra, Portugal. A delegation from Armenia’s Etchmiadzin
city, led by Mayor Karen Grigoryan, also attended the event.

To note, more than 200 countries are members in this Organization
and Etchmiadzin is a member since 2007.

In parallel with the conference, Karen Grigoryan also met with the
Organization’s headship, UNESCO representatives, and several city
mayors from a number of countries. During the meetings, the parties
discussed the avenues for cooperation in urban economy management
and in other domains.

As per the conference organizers, the Etchmiadzin delegation’s
attendance in itself is valuable in terms of the city and its
residents, and also toward consolidating Armenia’s international
standing.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
