YEREVAN.- UK supports resolution of the Karabakh conflict within the
format of the OSCE Minsk Group and hopes it will be possible to achieve
peace due to talks, said UK Ambassador to Armenia Charles Lonsdale.

According to him, the official London wants to see a peace agreement.

“First of all it depends on two governments,” he told journalists
on Monday. Although a peace treaty is not signed, much work had
been carried out to create a basis for the agreement which requires
political will, he added.

He recalled that UK is not a participant of talks stressing importance
of implementing the projects aimed at achieving convergence between
the two societies, in particular eliminating the stereotypes.

“Young people should be removed from an atmosphere of enmity, contacts
should be established,” Lonsdale said stressing that such approach
needs time but will definitely create basis for future results.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
