RUSSIA WILL ORGANIZE AZERBAIJANI-ARMENIAN TALKS; Presidents of Russia
and Armenia met in Moscow.

Negotiations between the presidents of Russia and Armenia took place
in Moscow. It became the first state visit of the Armenian leader to
Russia in the history of the Russian-Armenian relations.

Serj Sargsjan said, “It is an indication that we are past the level
of neighborly relations as such. We are strategic partners now.”

Dmitry Medvedev said, “We never have any problems with each other
because we always treat each other as friends.”

Needless to say, Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed among other things.

“I’m convinced that there are no alternatives at all to a fair
settlement of the conflict by political means,” said Medvedev. He
recalled Russia’s role as an intermediary in the Azerbaijani-Armenian
talks and said that Russia was going to remain an active member of
the OSCE Minsk Group and organizer of the contacts between Armenia
and Azerbaijan.

Sargsjan in his turn recalled that ten meetings with President of
Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev had been arranged with Medvedev’s help. “Three
statements were signed, documents that preserved fragile peace and
promoted restoration of trust between our countries.”
