The devastating earthquake which killed hundreds of people and
destroyed almost the whole town of Van was felt in the territory
of Armenia’s nuclear power station, reports Armenia’s emergency
situation service. No buildings were damaged in the area. Armenia’s
nuclear power station is 160 km away from the epicenter of the Turkish
earthquake. Some experts in the field think that the earthquake could
awaken the regional volcano Nemrut-dzhag which was last active in
1441. As is known there are many voices in Armenia and among its
neighboring countries demanding closure of Armenia’s nuclear power
station as it is located in a seismically active zone and creates a
threat for the region.
