It is likely that following the granting of a legal status to the
Armenian Apostolic Church, Armenia may start claiming territory from
Georgia, former Georgian President Edward Shevardnadze has told a
Georgian publication in an interview.

Shevardnadze said the law on granting legal statuses to minority
religious confessions in Georgia would negatively affect the relations
between the state and the church in Georgia. He said some of the
provisions of the could enable Armenia not only to claim churches
but also territories from Georgia.

“But I hope it is not going to happen,” he said, however.”There are
smart people in Armenia who know how many times has Georgia saved them,
and they now need Georgia as air.”

The Georgian parliament has adopted a law that gives a status of
legal entity to five minority confessions, including the Armenian
Apostolic Church.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
