$600 million is needed to fix the water supply in Yerevan to meet the
minimum standards, Gagik Margayan, the Customers Service director of
the Yerevan Jur Company told a news conference today.
The supply system is worn out, the pipes are 40 years old in average,
he said.
He added that over the past 10 years, some $40 million have been
invested by the previous and current operators to repair 6.3% of
the system.
Margaryan said the quality of the water is monitored through
determination of chlorine percentage in the water. “It is normal when
there is 0.3-0.5 mg of chlorine in a liter,” he said, adding new $88
million is planned to be invested to build new chlorine stations.
