Business of ex-president Robert Kocharyan and his son experiences
hard times, writes Zhamanak oppositional newspaper referring to its
own sources.

The newspaper writes that after Kocharyan’s recent interview with
Mediamax agency, his business-projects are no longer advertised. In
addition, the business expansion projects of the ex-president’s family
have been suspended.

The newspaper writes that Vice Premier of Armenia, Minister of
Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan gave relevant charges
to responsible persons. It is interesting information given the
fact that many observers considered Gevorgyan one of the second
president’s peoples.

In his interview with the above agency, Kocharyan, in particular,
said that the state of emergency was declared in Yerevan because of
the post-election unrest in 2008 when the situation got out of control
and was threatening to the constitutional order and security of the
citizens and their property. He said that the state of emergency
was declared in line with the Constitution of Armenia and all the
necessary procedures i.e. with consent of the parliament speaker and
prime minister and approval by the National Assembly. Explaining
the permanently observed “factor of Kocharyan” in mass media
publications and analytical items despite the fact that he is no
longer in politics, the ex-president said that during his presidency
the positive changes in the living standards of the population were
evident. He said that over the last years the living standards of the
population have tangibly fallen and irrespective of the objective or
subjective reasons of that fall people make comparisons.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
