Armenian researcher creates new program to study fingerprints

YEREVAN. – Armenian graduate student intends to create a new smart
system of studying fingerprints.

Young programmer Davit Kocharyan won the contest among young
researchers and got 1.5 million AMD for implementation of his program.

Davit Kocharyan says he has studied similar systems used in Italy and
U.S. and tried to create a new one taking into account shortcomings of
other programs. Such programs are widely used worldwide to study
fingerprints from the viewpoint of ensuring security.

`I have created an improved version of a program using existing
algorithms. It will enable to identify a person by his fingerprints
much faster,’ he said.

The programmer also noted that programs presently used in Armenia are
brought from abroad along with scanners and other equipment which is
rather expensive. After developing his program Kocharyan wants to
translate it into foreign languages.

The first contest was held this year in Armenia to assist young
researchers. Thirty-two researchers got grants.
