Russian, Armenian Presidents Discuss Nagorny-Karabakh Problem

RUSSIAN, ARMENIAN PRESIDENTS DISCUSS NAGORNY-KARABAKH PROBLEM

Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has met his Armenian counterpart
Serzh Sargsyan to discuss with him the settlement of the
Nagorny-Karabakh problem.

"The fact that that we regularly discuss such issues is very important
for strengthening trust and mutual understanding between our nations"
Medvedev said.

Nagorno-Karabakh is a region in the South Caucasus which was part
of South Caucasus. In 1988 the Nagorno-Karabakh autonomous region
which was the territory of Azerbaijan declared its idependence which
triggered rned conflict in 1991-1994. Since 1992, representatives
of the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan have been holding peace
talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group on the region’s status.
