BEIRUT: The Tashnag party celebrated Wednesday the 119th anniversary of
its foundation and demanded equal representation for Lebanese Armenians
in administrative appointments. Tashnag head Hovig Mekhtarian said
the Armenian sect was one of the main sects in Lebanon and should
benefit from just representation in administrative and judicial
appointments. He also asked that the coming municipal elections be held
at the scheduled date all the while implementing electoral reforms. He
also commented on the recent Lebanese Turkish rapprochement and said
the party did not oppose the relation but feared that it would not
have balanced sides.
