/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "It took me a long time to prepare for my visit to
Armenia, and I consider it crucial. I spent my childhood in Venice
and saw St. Lazare Island which symbolizes Armenian culture worldwide.

Then I moved to Naples and lived near St. Gregory the Illuminator
church. That’s probably my fate; I can’t call it otherwise," art
critic, doctor and Professor of Naples Academy Francesco Gallo told
today a news conference in Yerevan.

This is Gallo’s second visit to Armenia, which is aimed at arranging
renowned Armenian artist Minas Avetisyan’s exhibition in Rome,
Florence, Milan and other big Italian towns, as well as organizing
lectures on art history for students and lecturers of Armenian
universities and museum workers.

It is planned to hold large-scale exhibitions displaying 100 painting
in the best and biggest exhibition halls of Italy, so preparation
requires much time and effort. "Exhibitions are scheduled for 2010,
but I find it’s better to organize exhibition properly rather than
quickly," Gallo said.

Artist’s son Narek Avetisyan promised in the name of his family to
assist professor Gallo in organizing exhibitions.

During his last visit, Professor was dissatisfied with conditions of
maintaining Minas Avetisyan’s canvasses in Yerevan Contemporary Art
Museum. This time, however, he noticed certain progress.

On Sunday, Francesco Gallo will leave for Italy where he’ll meet with
RA Ambassador and Italian Minister of Culture.

between Armenia and Turkey requires patience and some creative
thought," Ambassador of Germany to Armenia Hans-Jochen Schmidt told
a press conference on November 13. According to him, signing of the
Armenian-Turkish protocols is an important step not only in terms of
normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, but also in respect of
normalizing relations across the region. He also stressed that the
Protocols after being ratified may have positive influence on the
process of the Karabakh settlement.

"Early ratification of the protocols, in my opinion, would be
a positive step not only for Armenia, but also for Turkey," the
ambassador said, adding that Turkey should use this opportunity
through ratifying protocols to start playing a greater role in the
South Caucasus region.

TURKS THREATEN TARAF DAILY COLUMNIST FOR HUMANISTIC ADAPTATION OF ATATURK’S "ADDRESS TO TURKISH YOUTH"

PanARMENIAN.Net
13.11.2009 17:49 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Turkish Taraf Daily’s columnist, Sevan Nishanyan,
who wrote a humanistic adaptation of Ataturk’s "Address to Turkish
Youth," a patriotic speech calling on young people to protect
their country at all costs, published e-mails received from irate
nationalists and filled with threats and vulgar language in his column.

In his adaptation, Nishanyan replaced the first sentence of the
address, "Your first duty is to preserve and to defend Turkish
Independence and the Turkish Republic forever," with "Your first duty
is to be a human being." The sentences: "This is the very foundation
of your existence and your future. This foundation is your most
precious treasure. In the future, too, there may be malevolent people
at home and abroad, who will wish to deprive you of this treasure"
in the original were changed to: "The very foundation of being human
is love toward other human beings. All through your life, you shall
consider it a duty for yourself to teach beauty, reason and justice
to people. If you have knowledge, you will share it without expecting
anything in return." The rest of Nishanyan’s adaptation was a treatise
on the equality of all human beings.

However, the backlash from some among the Turkish youth was
spine-chilling. "We will make you write the correct version of the
‘Address to Youth’ with your own blood. … I’ll kill you like that
Hrant Dink dog," said one of the messages, most of whose text was
not suitable for replication, Asbarez.com reported.
