TRANSPORT SECTOR INDICES MAINLY DECLINE, INDICES OF COMMUNICATION SECTOR INCREASE BY 11.3% IN ARMENIA IN JANUARY-SEPTEMBER 2008 ON SAME PERIOD OF 2007

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 4, NOYAN TAPAN. In January-September 2008, the volume
of goods transportation by general use transport declined by 9.9% in
Armenia on the same months of 2007 and made 6 mln 734.5 thousand tons.
According to the RA National Statistical Service, the turnover
of goods by general use transport grew by 5.1% in the country in
January-September 2008 on the same period of 2007 and made 2 bln
117.3 mln tonne-kilometers.
The passenger transportation by general use transport declined by 4.7%
in Armenia in the indicated period on January-September 2007 and made
179 mln 868 thousand passengers.
The passenger turnover fell by 0.6% in Armenia in the first nine
months of 2008 on the same months of last year and made 2 bln 846.2
mln passenger-kilometers.
The number of road accidents grew by 14.4% in Armenia in
January-September 2008 and made 1,587, as a result of which 285 people
died (11.8% growth) and 2,295 were injured (15.9% growth).
The revenues of enterprises in the communication sector amounted to
121 bln 58 mln drams or over 395 mln 847 thousand USD (without VAT)
in current prices in January-September 2008, increasing by 11.3%
in comparable prices on the same period of last year.
