GRANDMASTER, CHESS OLYMPIAD WINNER KAREN ASRIAN DIES SUDDENLY

YEREVAN, JUNE 9, NOYAN TAPAN. The Armenian chess school has suffered
a heavy loss. International Grandmaster Karen Asrian died suddenly
on June 9 – at the height of his powers, at the age of 28.

He was born in Yerevan, graduated from the Armenian State Institute
of Physical Culture, was a champion of Europe, champion of the World
Chess Olympiad, and winner of numerous prizes. K. Asrian was awarded
a Movses Khorenatsi medal.
