Toronto – The Toronto District School Board has given the green light
to include a high school course on genocide, but the proposed class
has already caused controversy.
The course would focus specifically on the Holocaust, as well as the
Armenian and Rwandan genocides.
But at a meeting last night, some Turkish Canadians protested the
inclusion of the Armenian genocide in the curriculum, while some
Ukrainian Canadians pleaded with the board to include the 1932-33
Soviet-engineered famine that killed millions.
The recommended course would still need to go to a vote of the full
board of trustees before it gets final approval.
