The presidential candidate Vahan Hovhannisyan continued his campaign
today in the region of Shirak.

He met the residents of Ashotsk, Amasia and Marmashen.

In Ashotsk Vahan Hovhannisyan was received in the House of Culture. Mr
Hovhannisyan began his speech saying that yesterday 25 heads of
communities and 40 enterprisers ensured that they would support his
candidature during the presidential elections.

Reflecting on the issues bothering the local residents, the
ARF candidate prioritized the necessity of decreasing taxes
on lands, noting that lands in the Ashotsk region were not
productive. Gasification is a vital problem in the village. The
candidate pointed out that in the result of social unfavorable
conditions, many residents leave the village. People leave for towns,
where the living conciliations are better. Thus, he proposes to
contribute to the development of the regions by making investments
in these areas.

"Yerevan may develop proportionally, when the regions develop,
while Yerevan is blown and this is not normal", he said. Residents
of Marmashen also prefer Vahan Hovhannisyan’s candidature. Young
people here consider that what this candidate says and proposes in
his program is real. Adults in Marmashen also consider that Vahan
Hovhannisyan is a reliable candidate.

Amasia residents pointed out the necessity of a hospital during the
meeting with the candidate. The only hospital was closed in October
2007. Children are born at homes, sick people are taken to hospitals
in Ghukasyan or Gyumri.

After the visit to villages, in the second part of the day a gathering
took place in Gyumri theatrical square. "If you give your votes to
me, you will have an unrecognizable country in a year", declared
Vahan Hovhannisyan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
