ArmInfo. 301 article of Turkey’s Criminal Code has ‘freezing effect’
at freedom of speech, US Charge d’Affairs Joseph Penington said at
the briefing.
‘US government officially stated many times that the 301st clause of
Turkey’s Criminal Code should be changed. This clause limits freedom
of speech, it has a "freezing effect" at free display of freedom of
speech among journalists as well as in the society in general’, –
the diplomat said.
To recall, editor-in-chief of the Armenian newspaper Agos issued
in Turkey Hrant Dink was persecuted by this clause (accused of
insulting Turkish dignity) and killed on 19 January of the current
year in Istanbul.
