YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS: With a vote of 104 and 5 against
Armenian lawmakers elected yesterday a deputy parliament chairman from
the Prosperous Armenia, Ishkhan Zakarian, as head of the Oversight
Chamber.
One of the amendments to the Armenian constitution enacted in November
2005 declared this body fully independent of the legislature. The
latter can now approve or reject only chamber heads nominated by the
president of the republic.
The Oversight Chamber is tasked with overseeing use of public funds.
The vacated position of the deputy parliament speaker will be given
to a woman member of the Prosperous Armenia party.
