ARMENIA CONSIDERING BAN ON RUSSIAN POULTRY IMPORTS

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS: Armenia announced today it would put
an embargo on poultry imports from Russia as soon as it receives an
official notification of a bird flu outbreak from Russian authorities.

The announcement made by Grisha Baghian, head of an agricultural
ministry’s department for food safety, comes after Russian media
reports that about 22,000 birds have been culled at a poultry farm
in south Russia’s Krasnodar Territory.

Baghian said though no instance of a bird flu was registered in
Armenia, the authorities are fully prepared to contain any possible
outbreak.

Armenian imports of poultry from Russia amounted to 4.5 tons last year.
