22:06 | 04/ 07/ 2007

EREVAN, 4 juillet – RIA Novosti.

It is important to have women in parliament

It is important to have women in parliament

04-07-2007 12:26:15 – KarabakhOpen

`In the Caucasus man was always the head of the family and supported
it. But everything changed after the war. Now we often see men ride in
cars, and women carry heavy bags,’ said the chair of the Women of
Artsakh NGO Tsovinar Baghdasaryan.

`Perhaps that’s why our women have become stronger. They carry the load
of the family. They say women have two joys, family and job. If a woman
has one of these, she will not give up. We have worthy women who could
perform well on their jobs. And it would be desirable if they became
engaged in politics. Not many women in Karabakh want to be engaged in
politics. Either they do not fancy or they do not have a good `rear’.
But I assure you it is very important to have women in the parliament
because they have a special approach to everything. It will help solve
problems more easily.’

Georgy Petrosyan: CoE representatives cast doubt on the institute of
elections

Commenting on the recent statement by the President of the Council of
Europe Committee of Ministers, Foreign Minister of Serbia Vuk Jeremic
that the forthcoming elections in the NKR can not promote the conflict
settlement and even impede the negotiation process, NKR Foreign
Minister Georgy Petrosyan said: `It arouses regret that the
representatives of the Council of Europe, the organization, which is to
protect and propagate the ideals and principles of pluralistic
democracy, human rights and rule of law by means of integration
processes, censure the conduct of elections. Thus, they cast doubt on
the election institute itself as an important element of democracy,
which contradicts the CoE Charter. And if the European officials don’t
want to contribute to the democratic processes in the NKR then we have
the right to expect that they, at least, won’t impede the strengthening
of democratic institutes in our republic.’

`We are deeply convinced that the democratization is an important
precondition for the Karabakh conflict settlement, since the democracy
presupposes the creation of mechanisms, which allow solving any
conflict exclusively in a peaceful way. Namely to this the Nagorno
Karabakh Republic is striving for. It would be natural if the
representatives of various European str

many Azerbaijanis reside in Mainz and this visit may unite the

NKR FM: That CE reps condemn conducting election in NKR arouses pity

NKR FM: The fact that CE representatives condemn conducting of
presidential election in NKR arouses pity

"The fact that representatives of the Council of Europe condemns
conducting of presidential election in
NKR arouses pity", NKR Foreign Minister Georgy Petrosyan said
commenting on the statement of Chairman of CE Committee of Ministers
Vuk Jeremic on the forthcoming presidential election.

As G. Petrosyan said, they prejudice the election institute as an
important element of democracy that conflicts with CE Statute. "If the
European officials do not wish to contribute to the democratic
processes in the NKR, we have a right to expect for them not to impede
strengthening of the democratic institutes in our republic", G.
Petrosyan said. "We are deeply sure that democratization is an
important prerequisite for the Karabakh conflict settlement, as
democratization envisages creation of mechanisms which allow settlement
of any conflicts in a peaceful way. This is what Nagorno
Karabakh aspires to. It would be natural if representatives of
different European structures share this aspiration", NKR FM said. As
ArmInfo’s special correspondent in Stepanakert reports, Vuk Jeremic has
recently said that the forthcoming presidential election in Karabakh
cannot serve the conflict settlement. Moreover, they hamper the
negotiation process.

Institution of elections is questioned

Institution of elections is questioned

04-07-2007 14:55:19 – KarabakhOpen

NKR foreign minister Georgy Petrosyan commented on the statement by the
president of the CoE Committee of Ministers Vuk Jeremic on the upcoming
NKR presidential election.

Mr. Petrosyan, recently the CoE officials have been making critical
statements on the upcoming NKR presidential election. A few days ago
the foreign minister of Serbia, the president of the CoE Committee of
Ministers Vuk Jeremic stated the upcoming election in Karabakh will not
be helpful to the settlement of the conflict and will complicate the
talks. What are your thoughts?

Unfortunately, the representatives of the Council of Europe, who are
believed to promote democratic ideas and principles through
integration, sustain human rights and the rule of law, are condemning
the election. Thereby they question the institution of elections as an
essential component of democracy, which contradicts to the regulations
of the Council of Europe. And if the European officials are not likely
to support the democratic process in NKR, we expect that at least they
will not hinder the establishment of democratic institutions in our
republic. We believe that democracy is a key precondition to the
settlement of the Karabakh conflict because it presupposes the creation
of mechanisms which enable reaching a peace settlement of any conflict.
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic follows this track. It would be natural if
the representatives of different European organizations supported it.
