ARMENIAN PATRIARCH MESROB II: THIS YEAR, I TOO AM FASTING

A variety of religious leaders from within Turkey yesterday gathered
for a large “iftar” meal sponsored by the Sisli Municipality of
Istanbul. Speaking to reporters at the “iftar tent” in Sisli, Armenian
Patriarch in Turkey, Mesrob II, noted “In Christianity, we also have
fasts. This year, I plan to join my fellow believers in the fast.”
Also present at the first “iftar” of this year’s Ramazan were the
Vatican’s representative to Turkey, Georges Marovich, as well as the
leaders of the Suryani congregations in Turkey, Yusuf Sag and Yusuf
Cetin. Markovich for his part commented that the month of Ramazan
was one which “people all over the world prayed contributed to peace”
on earth.
