Azeri prosecutor says youth activist not to be prosecuted
ANS TV, Baku
15 Aug 05
[Presenter in studio] Prosecutor-General Zakir Qaralov has said that
Osman Alimuradov, who was involved in negotiations with Armenian secret
agents together with [leader of the Yeni Fikir youth movement who is
charged with plotting to overthrow the government] Ruslan Basirli,
will not be prosecuted.
[Qaralov shown addressing a news conference] Osman Alimuradov is an
active member of the Yeni Fikir youth movement. You know, there is
a norm in the Criminal Code which says that if a person reports the
crimes he may have committed to the law-enforcement bodies, he is
exempt from prosecution.
Therefore, all citizens who have information about serious crimes
should share it with the prosecutor’s office and other law-enforcement
bodies, and they will not face any charges.
[Presenter] Zakir Qaralov also told the news conference that the
people facing charges can certainly have their candidacies registered
to stand in the [November] parliamentary election, but the registration
does not make them immune from prosecution.
