ARMENIAN-POLISH ASSOCIATION FORMED IN POLAND

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ An Armenian-Polish Association was formed in
Poland, Association Chairperson, Armenian language tutor of the
Warsaw University Margarita Yeremyan-Wozniakowska told PanARMENIAN.Net
reporter in Poland. In her words, Armenians have for a long time lived
in Poland but they have not formed a community yet. Presently there
are some unsettled problems mostly connected with the financial state
of the Association. According to Yeremyan-Wozniakowska, the membership
fee amounting in 20 zlotys cannot solve even the tiniest problems. “We
hope for grants,” she said noting that a slide show on the Armenian
Genocide will be the first event organized by the Association.
The event will take place in the Center of Culture in Warsaw April 24.

TURKEY SETS THREE CONDITIONS TO ARMENIA

demands by Armenia any development of ties between the two states is
out of the question, head of the Turkish delegation to the PACE Murat
Mercan stated in Strasbourg. According to the Turkish parliamentarian
the conditions are as follows: settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh
conflict admissible for both parties; Armenia’s positive reply to
Turkey’s proposal on the Armenian Genocide issue; recognition of
the present borders with Turkey on the basis of the Kars agreement
of 1921 by Yerevan. “Without fulfillment of these conditions it’s no
sense speaking of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations,”
Merjan said emphasizing the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border also
depends on the proper fulfillment of the above mentioned conditions,
reported Trend news agency.

ARMENIAN NAVY BAND AND SYSTEM OF A DOWN GOING TO RELEASE JOINT ALBUM

going to release a joint album, Armenian Navy Band manager John
Grigorian told reporters. He also informed that the Armenian Navy
Band and Arto Tunjboyajian will give a concert in Avanguarde-Folk
Club in Yerevan April 22.
To note, the Armenian Navy Band received The Audience Award 2006 as
the Best European Band at the annual BBC World Music Award contest.

ARMENIA DEVELOPS RELATIONS WITH MOROCCO

to Armenia Abdeljalil Saubry (residence in Kyiv) handed copies of
credentials Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian, reported the RA
MFA press office. Assessing highly Armenia’s traditional close ties
with the Arab world the interlocutors voiced readiness to develop
the Armenia-Morocco relations.
Besides, the parties referred to the cooperation within the
international organizations and conflict settlement. On behalf of the
Moroccan Foreign Minister Abdeljalil Saubry invited Vartan Oskanian
to Rabat.

Yekatirenburg in late March should be flogged. The incident is
settled,” Armenian Honorary Consul in the Ural Federation Okrug
Artashes Chlingaryan stated. To remind, March 28 three young men
assaulted two Armenians. “We all understand that the assault was
committed in anger and was not against the Armenian nationality. It’s a
mere coincidence,” Chilingaryan said. According to him, representatives
of the Armenian Diaspora will not dispute the decision despite the
fact that the police detained the malefactors and found nationalistic
literatures in their homes, reported Ekho Moskvi.

AZERBAIJANI EMBASSY IN HUNGARY REFUSED TO CONVEY SIGNATURES COLLECTED IN SAFAROV’S DEFENSE TO COURT

admit and convey the 100 thousand signatures collected in Safarov’s
defense to the court, Karabakh Liberation Organization (KLO) head
Akif Naghi stated in Baku. In his words, “the leadership, committee on
Diaspora and the Embassy have initially taken a wrong position.” “The
authorities were wrong to demand not to interfere or collect signatures
while the committee on Azeris living abroad openly supported a position
close to the position of the Armenian party,” the KLO head said.
To note, the committee on protection of Ramil Safarov’s rights
proposed to send Azeri parliamentarians to Hungary to holds talks
with the Hungarian counterparts and a group of journalists to cover
the Safarov’s trial, reported Day.az.

Life Imprisonment or…?
The Azerbaijani embassy in Hungary refused to hand the Hungarian
court alleged 100 thousand signatures witnessing for the defense
of Ramil Safarov charged with murdering Armenian serviceman Gurgen
Margarian during Nato exercises in 2004. According to Azeri Day.az
agency, the 3-member Azeri delegation transporting the signatures to
Budapest was rejected an admission to the embassy.
As was preliminarily reported, today the Hungarian court will bring
in the verdict for the Azeri murderer. In prosecutor’s words, Safarov
was sane while committing the crime and deserves 30 years in prison
with no right to amnesty.

TURKS TO WATCH EGOYAN’S ‘ARARAT’ TODAY

Private Turkish KanalTurk TV will air today Atom Egoyan’s “Ararat”
today, Agence France-Presse reports.
The Turkish presenter assured yesterday that the film will be shown
without cutbacks and censorship.
Interestingly, in presenter’s words, the decision for airing the film
was taken after a public opinion poll revealed that 72 percent of TV
viewers wants to see Atom Egoyan’s movie on Armenian Genocide.
According to AFP, the Turkish government does not hinder movie
screening. Yet, the agency reminds that another Turkish company
intended to show “Ararat” at a theatre but changed its mind fearing
possible protests.

ENVER’S MONUMENT IN BAKU

The Azerbaijani opposition has embarked on pulling down the statues
of Soviet leaders in the country.
Popular Front leader Ghudrat Hasankuliev appealed to the parliament
demanding to erect the statue of Enver Pasha. He elaborated that
the latter saved the Azerbaijani people from a genocide at the hands
of Armenians. Writing about this, Milliet Turkish newspaper informs
that the parliament speaker sent the proposal to an ad hoc commission
for discussion.

ITALIAN SPECIALISTS TO CARRY OUT RESTORATION OF KOBAYR FRESCOS

This year, a group of Italian restorers of ancient frescos and
Armenian archeologists, will work in Armenia, on the initiative of
Gayane Kasnati, professor at the Milan-based Center for the Armenian
Archeological Studies, and with the assistance of the Italian
government. It is already for several years that Mrs. Kasnati
successfully cooperates with the Department of Preservation of
Cultural Monuments at the Armenian Culture Ministry. She has carried
out researches in Yereruyk, Dashtadem and Amberd. She believes that
Armenia greatly needs to have skillful restorers of architectural
monuments. Certainly, the current situation required carrying out
training and exchanging programs of specialists. Mrs. Kasnati stated
that the Italian government has allocated education grants for the
Armenian students for Italian studies.
Mr. Kasnati stated that she can state that the state has changed its
attitude in the issue of preservation of architectural monuments,
as during the last two years the state assistance in these issues is
quite obvious.
Gagik Gyurjian, deputy RA culture minister, Roberto Nocielli, first
secretary of the Italian Embassy to Armenia, and other officials were
also present at the press conference held at RA Culture Ministry.
Mr. Nocielli stated that the Italian government pays special
attention to preservation and restoration of various countries’
cultural values. “This policy helps unfold cultural dialogue between
the countries. He added that the education grants are designed for
the people both with compulsory and higher education degrees, as well
as for the specialists of the Italian language.
Gagik Gyurjian also touched upon the issue of the current works
directed to restoration of the architectural monuments. As for the
issue of surrounding Saghmosavank monastery with a gate, he said
that he is informed about the situation and added that not a single
project will be implemented without the Ministry’ permission.
